Honda City 2020 Redesign, Price and Review

Honda City 2020 Concept

The new-generation Honda City is coming soon. While the car is expected to go on sale in India in 2020, some reports claim that the Honda City 2020 could be unveiled this year, 2019. If this happens, the car could be seen in its production form in the second half of the year. The City is a very important car for Honda in India and been a segment leader for a very long time with the Maruti Ciaz now giving it serious competition.

The new generation cars design language will be more fluid and in-line with the recently launched 5th generation Honda CRV. The new City will be another big launch for Honda. The company is trying to increase its footprint in India, by launching several new models. The City has been the most important model for Honda. Slated to enter its fifth generation, this new car will be launched somewhere in late 2019 or early 2020. The City is the best selling Honda in India. Hence, it will be launched first in India. The fan following for the Honda City is huge. Following the City’s launch will come the Honda Civic and the much anticipated Honda HRV.

The Honda City 2020 to be based on the Honda Design C-001 Concept. This concept was shown 2 years ago at the Chinese Auto Expo. Many new design elements will be seen for the first time on the new Honda City. The Honda City will also be seen for the first time in a two-door coupe avatar. The car’s design will take a departure from aggressive and lean design to a more flowing and upmarket look.

Honda City 2020 Exterior

Honda City 2020 will have to compete with more players in the segment.  The Toyota Yaris is the latest rival. Then there is the Tata X451’s sedan version, which will be launched. These will be new players for the Indian car market. The Honda City 2020 will improve on the safety aspect too.

Honda City 2020 Price in India

Minimum Price Rs 10 lakhs
Maximum Price Rs 18 lakhs
Mild hybrid Price Rs 19 lakhs

Honda would not like to play around too much with the pricing of the Honda City new model. There might be an increment only for the top model. This will be the variant that will get the most number of features, hence the pricing will be higher. The entry-level model shall be offered with dual airbags, ABS and even ISOFIX. Hence we reckon the pricing of the new City 2020 to be somewhere in the range of Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 18 lakhs (on-road). The engines of the City will be BS-VI complaint. This will also be a reason for a slight price increase, especially in the diesel version. Honda is working on the City hybrid too, but that is still some time away.

Honda City 2020 New Platform

The fifth-generation is based on a new platform. The new platform will be a reworked version of the current platform. However, it will be more rigid and be safer. It will be lighter too, by using high tensile steel. The design of the new City will be the sleekest of all the generations yet. It will look more sporty. At the same time, it will be looking much more premium and stylish. The space inside the car will be identical, but better managed. The City has always been a spacious car. Honda will try and make the utilization of space in the City based on the new platform better. The car will become a little longer and wider too. The car will get more headroom and overall ground clearance is also thought to become better. The suspension set up will be tweaked and improved for its already good ride quality. The sedan will get more features too. The current Honda City is competing with the Hyundai Verna, the Toyota Yaris and the face-lifted Maruti Ciaz. The engines will remain the same 1.5-liter petrol and diesel mill. These will be enhanced for improvement in performance and even mileage. The big change and addition to the line-up will be the offering of a CVT gearbox with the diesel i-DTEC engine. This is will help the City claw back sales from the Verna which has a good amount of buyers in the ‘Diesel Automatic’ segment.

The best value in Honda City 2020 is a base model with manual gearbox, but it’s still decently priced after adding fancy audio, leather, and a moonroof.
